Key Cell Phone Features to Consider

Text Messaging

In this day and age, the cell phone is becoming widely used for text messaging.  Indeed, there are cell phone users today that text message more than they actually talk on their cell phone units.  With this in mind, as you shop around for a cell phone, you will want to consider the text messaging capabilities if a particular cell phone you may be considering purchasing.

The Prevelance of Text Messaging Today

Text messaging has become the communication form of choice for many people. Because it’s a slow process, a whole language and spelling culture has developed around “texting.” Even so, people often develop repetitive motion injuries of the thumbs and wrists. Choosing the right keypad can alleviate or eliminate the stress surrounding text messaging, and a new keyboard being developed by Digit Wireless will also go a long way toward reducing risk.

Text Messaging and Your Cell Phone Keypad

Most of the time your cell phone keypad is the standard telephone keypad of olden days-one number is combined with several letters. When you text message, you have to thumb through letters at times to get to the one you want in the group. This is ahrd on the tiny tendons in your hand.

A Look at the QWERTY Keypad for Your Cell Phone

If you do a lot of text messaging, consider a different kind of keypad. Many phones are equipped now with QWERTY keypads. Although some require a stylus to use, you could get up to speed quickly and save your hands in the process. Palm computers and PDAs were the first to use this layout, but other cell phones are incorporating the QWERTY layout on their keypads.

The Digit Wireless Keypad for Your Cell Phone

There is a new keypad, introduced about a year ago by Digit Wireless. This cell phone keypad is a 12-key design like the regular keypad, but letters have their own keys. These letters are wedged between the number keys. This, claims the company, makes the Fastap keyboard more intuitive and ergonomic. The spacing of keys on the Fastap is also wider, allowing larger fingers to find keys more quickly.

And where can you get a phone with the Fastap keypad? Currently Canada’s Telus Mobility carries a phone with the Fastap keypad, but there may be a day when it’s a standard cell phone feature. Digit Wireless must first convince manufacturers to begin incorporating the technology in their products. This can be difficult, but Telus reported that the keypad was one of their best-selling models.

Consider Your Needs

So when you are shopping for a phone and want to check out this keypad, ask for it-it may be there for you, and if not the request will help put cell phone manufacturers on notice.
